Whimsical Wanderlust
Happy first day of September fellow fashionistas! Don't fret, hot summer days and nights will continue for a few more weeks so you don't have to pack your swimsuits away just yet!
This week's outfit was inspired by the soft pastel sunsets we've been seeing a lot lately. I also wanted to feature the comeback trend from the 90's of a button down shirt tied around the waist. I'm loving this season's spinoff creation that mimics the trend. A great example is this "Tied T-Shirt Dress" dress from Anthropologie.
I had fun creating my own version of the comeback trend! To complete my little homage to the 90's, I whipped out my "Hit Clips" of *Nsync and Spice Girls! Okay so they don't work anymore... I listened online instead..
When the temps begin to cool down and the leaves begin piling on the pavement, I can easily transform this look by adding layers. Light gray or brown sheer tights to keep my legs warm and slip my arms through an ivory cardigan or play with proportions in a chunky cable knit open cardigan.
As always, please scroll to the bottom of the post for store listings!
Free People never fails to have adorable slip dresses! This little drop waist handkerchief number features an ivory lace chevron trim along the neck and waistline. Two variations of floral print are used creating a fun and whimsical look fit for a water nymph!
After choosing the dress, I rummaged through my closet and dresser drawers to find the right button down to tie around the waist.
Success!! My recent $19.96 sale find at Ann Taylor was a match made in fashion heaven! The powder blue button down blouse is very lightweight so it prevents a bulky look when tied around the waist.
An added bonus of tying a blouse around the waist of this slip dress, it prevents a "Marilyn moment" from occurring. By that I mean the blouse keeps the airy handkerchief hemline from flying up! I don't want to expose my knickers!
Details
I had a wonderful time styling and photographing the accessories for this week's outfit! These beautiful turquoise earrings were passed down to me from my Nana who lives in sunny California.
To mimic the ivory lace trim details on the slip dress, I chose my ash brown ankle boots because the side panels feature embroidered knit lace. I call them my "Spring Awakening" boots. Referencing the Broadway musical for any fellow theater goers/lovers!
To highlight the pastel blue and coral hues, I chose to accessorize with an orangey brown handbag.
