While looking at the remainder of last weeks NYC Fashion Week pictures, I saw Richard Nicoll's collection from this weeks London Fashion Week and couldn't resist blogging about it! His collection is out of this world cool chic! A few themes I pick up are sporty, feminine, and whimsical. Each look in Mr. Nicoll's collection conveys those three themes in a unique way.
The first look instantly reminded me of a bioluminescent jellyfish. http://www.vogue.com/slideshow/ I say that in the most positive way. I adore the iridescent glow and sheen the fabric provides. It's like a work of pure magic! I recommend you zoom into the image of nymag.com or even watch the runway show itself to see just how magical this dress is. If I had been lucky enough to see it in real life, I would be hypnotized and transported to another world. The fine shredded like shoulder detailing that mimics the bottom hemline, is so well crafted that it seems as though the wearer is emitting the sparkles from her body not just "wearing" a garment that simply sparkles. The heather gray sports bra and matching boy short create that sporty foundation to the overall look as well.
The best way I can describe the second look is, "I walked outside and this beautiful fabric flew through the wind and clung onto me in just the right places". The silky navy blue plunging v-neck dress hugs and highlights just the right "nooks and crannies". What could have been just another romantic silky dress is completely transformed into a current day-futuristic sporty-luxe evening wear look. The element that provides that is the fine sheer fabric used to create a crew neck sweater silhouette. The relaxed "scrunched up" sleeve styling creates a casual cool attitude to the overall look. In my opinion the bold collar can either represent a necklace or play upon visually creating the appearance of a crew neck sweater.
The third and final look I chose is one of the more sportier looks from the collection. The mix of retro and futuristic fashion is created by the retro high waisted shorts and the long anorak styled coat with high shine silver trim details. The saturated lilac color is the focal point and to me is a suitable hue for any season. I love that Mr. Nicoll added a delicate silver necklace and how's this for being innovative... earbud shaped charms hanging down from the bar on the necklace! I wish I could find a detail shot of it. Grr!
