Fancy a trip to the MoMA or MET? You yourself are already a work of art but why not wear a painting as well! Alice + Olivia have made that dream possible!
The first look I chose as part of my top 3 looks, is a classic sheath dress but turned up about a million notches! The silhouette and crisp white fabric serves as the perfect blank canvas for a print to be created and in this case... a masterpiece! I couldn't decide if the inspiration was Picasso, Frida Kahlo,Van Gogh, or maybe all 3! The color pallet and overall composition is reminiscent of folk art as well.
The second look is POW look at me! No need to go to the MoMA when you can be your own traveling art exhibition! I spy Henri Matisse fans! This A-line white dress is transformed into a canvas for the famous Henri Matisse's Blue Nude series. http://shop.tate.org.uk
I noticed that the right arm of the figure is in a different pose then the original paintings but that could very well be due to avoiding copyright infringement. The third and final look I chose (it was very hard to only choose 3) is a chic evening wear 2 piece. The sheer cream set is very simple when you visually deconstruct the overall look. The length of the top is juuuust right in my opinion. Even though a bit of the stomach is shown it still remains elegant. If you zoom in you will see that it's not a printed garment but the pattern is embossed! How interesting! It's reminiscent of braille. The pattern itself as well as the brown color palette looks like a beautiful Henna Tattoo. http://hennalounge.com
I love that the design stops at the knee. It visually lifts your eye level, giving the illusion of added height to the wearer. I think it also gives the illusion that it's a shorter skirt. Oh the magical power of utilizing negative space!
